Welcome to Tranquility: One Foot in the Grave #1

“Homecoming-Part One: A Shot at Redemption” (No Spoilers)

Welcome ‘back’ to Tranquility! That quirky little town in the Wildstorm Universe that Gail Simone introduced us to back in 2006. In case you don’t know, the original Welcome to Tranquility ran for 12 issues. As part of the Worldstorm event, it retroactively added this cast of elderly superheroes to the Wildstorm Universe. For example, it added a history between Majestic, The High, and Tranquility resident Maximum Man as a trio fighting crime in the early 20th century called The Big Three. It was an idea that did not exist before the series. After the series, there was a Welcome to Tranquility: Armageddon one-shot that appeared as part of the Wildstorm: Armageddon crossover. Since then, we haven’t seen the town other than a few mentions of it over in Gen 13.

Dv8: Gods and Monsters #4

“Calm Like a Bomb” (No Spoilers)

Ok, now we’re back on track with this issue! The series had slowed down a little bit, especially last issue, but now we’ve got an issue centered on Threshold. Did anyone really think we’d get a slow issue dealing with Threshold? I think not!

Since he first appeared in the original Gen 13 mini-series Threshold has always been a very interesting character to me. He’s psychotic but he’s well justified in being this way I think. He saw his parents murdered in front of him when he was just a kid. He was raised by Project Genesis to be a killer. And he had Ivana Baiul as a lover once upon a time, something I think would drive anyone crazy. He’s also a very angry character which means he could snap at any moment and believe me, snap he does.

Wildstorm Addiction Podcast – Episode 8

Welcome to another episode of Wildstorm Addiction! Our resident Wildstorm experts Joe David Soliz & Benjamin Murphy talk about the Wildstorm comic releases for the weeks of 6/30 through 7/14.
Joe welcomes everyone to Episode #8 with reviews of The Authority #24, Sparta USA #5, The X Files/30 Days of Night #1, and The Authority: The Lost Year #10.

The Authority: The Lost Year #10

“The Seventh Day” (No Spoilers)
FINALLY! An issue of Lost Year I really like! I haven’t liked an issue this much since issue 6 (which ultimately let me down with the following issue). The difference here is I now know this little arc will be resolved next issue. Would I like for it to run longer? Hell yeah! Especially with Brandon Badeaux drawing it. But for now I’ll take what I can get.

I’ll start with Brandon Badeaux. He is an incredible artist! Wildstorm fans have seen his work in the “Dane: Loyalties” back-up story which ran in the early World’s End titles and also in The Authority #10. Not since Gene Ha opened up this series have I come across art I loved this much. He is extremely detailed and I think that may be his blessing and his curse. I’m not sure if he could do a monthly because he spends so much time on his art but even if it were bi-monthly, I’d wait for a title with his art.
